Brazilian Portuguese Phrases and More

It's been a while since we've been able to work on BrazilianPortuguese.us but since I last wrote we have made a few additions to the site. 3 new activities have been added. One related to colors and I have also started to introduce words for animals like dog and cat.

We have also added a new section for Brazilian Portuguese phrases. We will continue to add more phrases to this section and will also begin to include the ability to listen to these phrases, similar to what we have started to do with the interactive lessons. Hopefully we will be able to spend more time on the site!

Twitter Translation and Sound

I've been messing around with and learning the Twitter API over the last couple of days. Along with something I put together to compliment a project at work I also created a Twitter translation app that allows you to post translated tweets in Portuguese and English.

The other thing I have started on is getting sound files available for the various words and phrases in the lessons. I've got them up on the first Brazilian Portuguese lesson. I'm still working out the kinks. Especially, I am trying to get it so that the sound file does not have to open in another browser window. Once Lori gets here, we can have better sound files, spoken by a native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese.

vermelho, amarelo, branco, e verde

Since yesterday we have added a YouTube channel that will soon be full of complimentary tutorial videos which will help you with your Brazilian Portuguese lessons. We have also created few new activities teaching some basic colors and reinforcing some other vocabulary words already learned in previous activities. And here they are:

Another cool little tool that we have added to the site is a Portuguese translation page that gives you the ability to translate text from English to Portuguese and from Portuguese to English. It uses the Google translation API and works pretty well for words and short phrases.

Welcome!!

This should be the first post of many related to learning Brazilian Portuguese. My fiance (Brazilian) and I (American) decided to create the site BrazilianPortuguese.us after we realized there really are no good online lessons for the language. We are just getting started so please sign up for an account and we will notify you when we add more lessons, make changes, etc. You can also follow us on Twitter and this blog as well.

Tchau!
